The Fiona Stanley Hospital, Perth, WA
The Fiona Stanley Hospital is the new flagship teaching hospital in Western Australia. Opened in October 2014, this 783-bed hospital offers state-of- the-art medical and surgical services, emergency care and specialist services for adults and children. The campus includes 18 Theatres and over 22 wards on 9 levels together with a comprehensive education centre and dedicated research facility. It is the home of the State Adult Burns Unit, the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive Cancer Centre and a purpose-built mental health unit.
Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Services at FSH opened in February 2015, bringing the pre-existing activity and expertise from Fremantle Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital into the new facility. FSH is now the premier Cardiac Unit in Western Australia housing the State Heart and Lung Transplant unit and providing comprehensive Cardiac and Cardiothoracic Services to people living and working in Perth’s southern suburbs and across the State. The Cardiology Service comprises a 20 Bed CCU, a 24 Bed Ward, 5 Cathlabs, including a Cardiac Hybrid Cathlab together with a full range of non-invasive testing and outpatient services.
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital , Perth, WA
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is a teaching hospital located in Nedlands, Western Australia. It is located across the road from the beautiful Kings Park, down the road from Subi oval, current home of the West Coast Eagles and Dockers, and 6km from the magnificent Cottesloe Beach.
Opened in 1958, it was named in honour of Sir Charles Gairdner, governor of Western Australia 1951-63, and is part of the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Medical Centre.
All clinical specialties are provided, with the exception of complex burns, paediatrics, obstetrics, and gynaecology. It houses the state's only comprehensive cancer treatment centre, and is the state's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants. The hospital is closely associated with the nearby University of Western Australia as well as Curtin University, Notre Dame University, and Edith Cowan University.
SCGH has a busy Cardiac unit with over 800 coronary interventional and structural procedures performed last year. SCGH has been providing a 24/7 STEMI program for more than 15 years.
The first Mitraclip in Australasia was performed at SCGH in 2011.
